Road racing is back in Connecticut!  Today I ran the Cheshire Half Marathon in person—my first in-person race since the Philadelphia Half Marathon in November 2019!  Conditions were not ideal (hot and super humid, though thankfully we didn't get the predicted thunderstorm) but it was great to participate in a live race again.

In the line-up!

The finish at Cheshire High School.
The Cheshire Half Marathon is the only one I've ever finished on a track.
It's a pretty cool experience.

Todd was a race photographer extraordinaire, as usual <3

The Bling

I’ll give you an example from today of why it’s great to race with others.  I was less than a mile from the finish, struggling up the final hill.  A woman passed me and said, “Come on, we only have a half mile left to go—let’s do it!”  Her encouragement came at exactly the right time for me, so I matched her pace and ran with her the last leg of the race.  We crossed the finish line one after the other and high-fived afterwards.  I thanked her for helping me finish!  Runners are such nice people :)

Jane/NF Update:

The summer is passing quickly—Jane and I head back to NIH in just two weeks.  We don’t have our final schedule just yet, but it will involve another full-body MRI along with all our usual tests.

Meanwhile, Jane is working as a Counselor-In-Training at camp for the first time this summer!  The kids have attended Deer Lake Camp since they were little, but now in addition to Helen and Alec being counselors, we also have a CIT in the family.  They all commute to work together each morning (and Todd and I find it adorable).
