Another half marathon done with the NF Endurance Team! This was my eighth time running the NYC Half
Marathon in person. I’ve run this race
in cold, in clouds, in sunshine, running south and running north--every time it’s
a great race because of the iconic scenery and the crowd energy.
Since I first ran this race in 2015, there have been three
significant changes in the race route—this year’s might be my favorite.Since 2018, the race has taken runners over
the Manhattan Bridge, but due to ongoing construction on South Street in
Manhattan, this year the course crossed the Brooklyn Bridge instead. This is a New York Road Runners first; none
of the NYRR races have ever run across the Brooklyn Bridge!
Because of lots of springtime activities going on at home, I
didn’t spend long in the city this weekend—just a quick overnight. I didn’t meet up with the NF Endurance team this
time except on the course.
At the Expo!
This was the first time I'd seen a nod to charity runners
There we are!
But they always have the Runner Name Wall!
Pre-race gear check
The weather was 50 degrees and overcast, which should be
perfect race conditions.But the city
was socked in with fog, so we felt like we were running in a cloud the whole
route. We couldn’t even see Manhattan during our much-anticipated run over the
Brooklyn Bridge! While the fog was a
unique experience, I felt badly for those out-of-town runners who had never
seen New York City before.
And there were lots of runners! The organizers posted afterwards that, at 28500+
participants, it was largest half marathon ever recorded in the US.
Passing Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn in the fog
With the Brooklyn Bridge behind!
Coming up to the CTF Cheer Station on 42nd St! Our team captain Lydia took these photos.
Next up, in less than 6 weeks (eek!)—the London Marathon
April 27!

We head back to NIH next month for Jane’s semi-annual
