I started training for the Hartford Marathon again this month.  To make it official, here’s my training plan:

Of course, our fund-raising campaign is ongoing.  Donate here:  www.krath4jane.com!

This time around I’ve already learned two new lessons about training—things I should have known better about:
     1.   Training for two half-marathons in a season does not equal training for one full marathon.  Even though I’ve been running all year, I’m out of shape for the weekly long runs.  Working on it.
     2.  In the middle of summer, it is not OK to start a long run at 11am, even if it is when everyone else has been served their morning meal and supplemental child care is available.  This is fine any other time of year, but I’m too old to run anything over 10 miles in the 90 degree heat of July.  I’ve got to reconfigure my Sunday mornings.  (Next weekend, you’re on your own for breakfast, kiddos!)

Jane and Family Update, summer to date:
We’ve had an enjoyable month since school let out.  We spent the last week in June in Cape Cod decompressing from the school year.  It was nice and quiet!  We slept in, rode our bikes everywhere, swam, played on the beach, and had good weather.

Poor Todd!  He's never in any of the pictures because he's always the one with the camera!

We got back the 4th of July weekend and were invited to spend the holiday itself with family friends in another part of Connecticut.  They have a daughter Helen's age, a son Alec's age, and a son Jane's age--all get along swimmingly :)  We were even able to go sailing on their boat!  What a wonderful time.

For the month of July the kids are attending day camp in a nearby town, and I am glad to say they are all having a blast (as they usually do).  Instead of the minimal responses to "How was your day?" that we get during the school year, every night at dinner they all chat animatedly about the day's events at camp.  It is nice to see.  (They also sleep soundly--all that fresh air tires them out!)

Helen's camp team, which was awarded the White Feather for good citizenship.  Incidentally, Helen is now a teenager!  She turned 13 earlier this month, and will soon be taller than me :)

In other news, after 6 long months Alec finally consented to a haircut!  He wasn’t particularly happy about it, but I’m certainly relieved.
